STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS (SONA) 2018

President Rodrigo Duterte delivered his 3rd State Of the Nation Address (SONA) (Monday July 23, 2018) at the Session hall of the house of the Representatives, Batasang Pambansa Complex, Quezon City. The speech lasted for 48 minutes, his shortest SONA so far. Short but sweet, I was shocked because he delivered his speech without cussing. Is that really the President Duterte talking? But everything his speech were drama free.

SONA or State of the Nation Address is an annual address by the President of the Philippines to a joint session of the congress. It is also a vehicle for the President to summarize the accomplishments and plans of his/her program of governments.
President Duterte started his speech, telling the congress he wants the second package of tax reforms passed before the end of the year. He emphasize his government's top campaign, war on drugs. He also said that he wants to continue the Train Law. He fired several officials tagged in corruption, he vows to sign Bangsamoro Organic Law within 48 hours after it's ratification.
And my favorite and really gets my attention is when he explain about the war on drugs. He said "WAR IS NOT AN OPTION." "YOUR CONCERN IS HUMAN RIGHTS, MINE IS HUMAN LIVES" which is true because there's so many lives wasted because of that drugs. I also liked what he said about friendship; "I VALUE FRIENDSHIP BUT IT HAS IT'S LIMITS." because he is willing to let go of certain friendships if it meant sticking to his stance against corruption. that's why he fired several officials.

When compared to the previous SONA of the president,he now sticks to his script. During his first SONA in 2016 his speech lasted for 90 minutes or 1 hour and 30 minutes, while his second, in 2017 lasted for 2 hours.

NUTRITION MONTH 2018 "UGALIING MAGTANIM SAPAT NA NUTRISYON AANIHIN"

We are celebrating the nutrition month every month of July to promote nutritious foods and for us to gain good health. The nutrition month is very important because it informs everyone the importance and the right nutrition that our body needs. The theme for this year is “UGALIING MAGTANIM SAPAT NA NUTRISYON AANIHIN” for me it means that we need to plant fruits and vegetables so that we can have enough nutrition.

The right nutrition is very important for our daily life because it gives strength and energy to us to do our everyday task like household choirs. The nutrition comes from the foods we eat. Fruits and vegetables are the main source of vitamin and minerals, like vitamin A for our eyes, and vitamin E for our skin. But aside from buying, you can also plant your own fruits and vegetables so that you can save money. Make a mini garden, you can plant nutritious and easy to grow vegetables and fruits like, tomatoes, kangkong, ampalaya, papaya, okra and more.

Planting fruits and vegetables are very important because this are the main source of our energy and this are good to our health. So instead of always eating meats and any unhealthy foods, start planting and  eating fruits and vegetables.

Philippines Independence Day

The Americans granted the Philippines Independence day on July 04, but given so many strings attached to that grant of independence, historians made a case for celebrating it on another day. President Diosdado Macapagal  moved the Independence day celebration to June 12.

Philippines was colonized by many countries such as Spain, Japan, and America. Many Pilipinos sacrificed their own lives for our freedom. They fought with no doubt, that's why we are now free.
Independence is one of the best gifts that we inherit from our ancestors. If we look back at the years of striving, fighting and sacrificing, the tears and the bloods they shed; The lives that were lost.  Isn't it worth celebrating? Finally, they achieved what they are fighting for, and we, the living generations are enjoying up to this days.

Yes, we are free of colonization, but not totally free because we still experience harassment from other countries. We are under authoritative leaders, under poverty, crimes, social discrimination and the the like, we still need to fight for our rights for the next generations but those should not hinder us from celebrating the victories of our ancestors. This one day celebration wouldn't enough to show our gratitude to the greatness they have shown.

Do we need to celebrate this Independence now and then? We should and we will.
